Along our trip we encountered two types of Cairns, Conical and Bates. For those who are not in the know a cairn is rock pile used to mark a trail. Conical cairns are are as the name suggests large conical piles of rocks. Bates Cairns introduced by Acadia trail builder Waldron Bates, consist of two rocks laid parallel two each other, one long rock laid lengthwise across them, and several smaller rocks on top of that. Now you know the rest of the story.

Hello Hilel,
ReplyDeleteMy company is designing some exhibits for Acadia National Park, and we'd love to get your permission to use your image of a Cairn on one of the panels. Please contact me if you still get messages through this blog. Thanks!
Hi Ned,
ReplyDeleteOn behalf of Hillel, I apologize for the delayed response. It would be our pleasure to grant you access to the above images for use on the panel. We would like to reach an agreement on compensation. Our lawyer, Elliot Fink, esq will be reaching out shortly.
